Graduate Fashion Week winner launches River Island collection

Myrto Stamou, winner of Graduate Fashion Week 2009 is about to launch a mini-collection in branches of River Island. The designer who is now building her own-name label in her native Greece, will see two of her dress designs go into stores in June 2010 priced £49.99 each. As part of her prize, Myrto was invited to collaborate with River Island designers in order to adjust her dresses for the high street market. A graduate from the University of Creative Arts, Rochester, Myrto's dresses will also feature the name of her university on the labels. “My collection was quite wearable already but there still where a few changes to be made to make them more practical and wearable by the general public,” she explained. “One of the dresses is very close to my original designs, combining drapery with all the intricate fabric manipulation which I have used on the fitted bodice of the original garment. The other has a different silhouette which is more body conscious. It still uses the same fabric manipulation but without the draped parts this time.”
Myrto hopes the collection will help keep her name in the public eye here in the UK while she works from her new design studio in Athens. This year's Graduate Fashion Week takes place between 6- 10 June at Earls Court 2 and shows are open to the public.
